fall gardening win
Oct. 30th, 2009 09:08 pmIt's kind of ridiculous that there are still four things growing in our backyard. The lettuce, peas, and broccoli, that makes me yay. ("Yay-y"? "Yayy?") But the raspberries? that's bizarrely delightful. Halloween raspberries.
I'm also so pleased to have the garden otherwise buttoned up for the winter & spring. I pulled out everything else a few weeks ago (and processed a bunch of green tomatoes and green peppers), and sowed a cover crop, winter rye/hairy vetch. Now there's a blanket of green that'll be waiting under the snow, all winter. And I got in a huge bunch of flower bulbs and about fifty cloves of garlic - little packages of stored beauty for the eyes, nose, tongue, and heart.
Thank you, backyard. You were wonderful this year.
